Access is the first of the four measurement areas, and in many ways the most fundamental: without access to digital technology, users cannot begin to develop digital skills, use digital platforms, or partake in digital innovations. As our world grows increasingly connected, those that are unconnected are at risk of being left behind. This fact is especially clear after the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic: as physical restrictions set in across the globe, those without access cannot acquire information, access healthcare, make payments, or receive education.
This measurement area covers to what extent companies are striving to bridge the digital divide, and cover universal access to digital technologies, digital opportunities for women and girls, accessibility for users with disabilities, and economic value distribution.
