KDDI, as it is known today, resulted from a merger between KDD, DDI and IDO Corporation in 2000. Headquartered in Tokyo, the Japanese telecommunication services company offers wireless services in Japan through its au brand, which has over 61 million mobile subscribers as of March 2021. KDDI also operates more than 40 data centres in 12 countries under the Telehouse brand.
