Allies Assembly

The Allies Assembly is WBA’s flagship global sustainability conference on the role of business action towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Bringing together partners and stakeholders from all over the world who represent the global Alliance, it is a key moment to advance our common strategy. It serves as WBA’s annual gathering, where an international and multi-stakeholder #SDG17 community comes together to inspire diverse partnerships to drive collective action on sustainable development.

2024 Allies Assembly: From 11 to 13 June in Bangkok

To date, editions of the Allies Assembly have been held in India, Italy, South Africa, Mexico. Browse through the events to get an impression of our annual gatherings.

2023 Allies Assembly in Mexico City

The Allies Assembly 2023, held in June, was an impactful three-day gathering in Mexico City that helped foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences.

Attendees included WBA Allies from around the globe as well as regional stakeholders. Over the course of the Assembly, WBA organised multiple workshops and sessions, each intended to provide our global and multi-stakeholder community with a platform to network and engage. Sessions included a consultation on the then soon-to-be launched white paper on corporate accountability, a discussion with Mexican SDG2000 companies, a multi-stakeholder high-level panel discussion on corporate accountability, multipl workshops focused on different transformation themes (social, nature, urban, financial system), a workshop on WBA data and insights and an Ally World Café, a networking platform for Allies to interact with us on topics of shared importance. During each session, we noted a high level of interest and engagement from our participants. Over 200 stakeholders participated during the ‘public day’ open to non-Allies. See the full programme.

2022 Allies Assembly in Cape Town

In 2022, we hosted our first in-person Allies Assembly since the COVID-19 pandemic, in South Africa, to focus on the way in which the community can incentivise companies and hold them accountable.

The Assembly helped us gain concrete insights into different stakeholder expectations and their data needs, it helped identify ways of framing communications to increase impact, and identified different ways in which this community could continue to collectively prioritise accountability mechanisms for business in this ‘decade of action’. 2019 Allies Assembly in Mumbai

In March 2019, WBA brought together a number of Allies, as well as other key stakeholders from the public, private, and civil society sectors for a three-day program in Mumbai, hosted in partnership with the Dutch Consulate in Mumbai.

WBA’s Allies Assemblies allow us to connect with sustainability leaders in this space from around the world to share learnings and ideas. The breadth of topics, expertise and passion that the WBA Allies Assembly participants represent is unlike any other conference around. I always leave these assemblies a lot more positive, hopeful and inspired than when I arrive!
