Uniper is a fully state-owned company headquartered in Germany. In 2022 its revenue was USD 290.76 billion. The company owns and manages fossil fuel power plants across Europe. The majority of Uniper’s sold electricity comes from purchased power. Prior to its nationalisation by the German government in 2022, Finnish company Fortum was Uniper’s controlling shareholder. Between 2021 and 2022, Uniper’s total generating capacity reduced by over 30% due to the deconsolidation of its Russian assets. In April 2023, Russia seized Uniper’s assets, including its 83% stake in Unipro, its gas- and coal-based power generation subsidiary in Russia.
