This FAQ answers common questions from companies invited to take part in a data validation process ahead of the launch of TransitionArc — a new tool developed by Arc, in partnership with the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) and other leading climate data organisations, to help track corporate progress on climate transition. Below, you'll find information on what TransitionArc is, how it relates to WBA's existing ACT Core methodology, what data will be reviewed, and how long the process is expected to take.
TransitionArc, developed by Arc, is a one-stop tool to assess corporate transitions on climate goals. It provides transition data and analysis in one place, showing companies’ relative progress across GHG performance, climate targets, capital allocation, governance and policy engagement.TransitionArc is a unique collaboration between Arc and world-leading corporate climate data and analysis providers including Carbon Tracker Initiative, Corporate Knights, Global Canopy, InfluenceMap, the International Council on Clean Transportation, Science Based Targets Initiative, Transition Pathway Initiative and the World Benchmarking Alliance.
The data will be published on the TransitionArc website and is accessible free of charge.
The results will be published on TransitionArc on a rolling basis once the data validation is complete, throughout 2026 and 2027.
TransitionArc is philanthropically funded, built as a public good for all. It can be used to accelerate climate action across a range of levers, including financing, corporate action, policy and regulation, and civil society. The tool can be used by:
The TransitionArc data model allows for full transparency and traceability, linking company disclosure to analysed outputs. The selected transition metrics are consistent with existing climate transition frameworks, including the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT).
No, this data collection exercise is separate from all WBA assessments and benchmarking.
The data collected through this process is a subset of the full data requirements of ACT Core methodology (see What information/data I will need to review). It will not lead to a score or a revision of the current ACT Core scores published on WBA’s website.
For this data collection process, only publicly available information is valid. The same criteria used for our ACT Core assessment will be used.
Arc and WBA are strategic partners working together to accelerate credible corporate climate transition.
WBA develops and applies the ACT (Assessing low-Carbon Transition) Core methodology to assess companies' climate transition performance. A subset of this independently assessed data is provided to Arc for use within the TransitionArc platform, where it is combined with complementary datasets from other leading climate data organisations to support financial institutions and other stakeholders.
The partnership is also supported through philanthropic funding from Arc, which enables WBA to expand the coverage of ACT assessments, strengthen the governance and ongoing development of the ACT methodology, and collaborate on improving the efficiency, quality and scalability of climate transition data. This funding supports WBA's independent mission while advancing the shared objective of making robust, decision-useful climate transition information more widely available.
The two organisations work closely together and have distinct and complementary roles. WBA is responsible for the development, governance and application of the ACT methodology and broader corporate accountability assessments, while Arc focuses on making climate transition data accessible and decision-useful to Financial Institutions through the TransitionArc platform.
The partnership also extends beyond data sharing. WBA and Arc are collaborating to improve data quality, expand company coverage, and develop more efficient and automated approaches to climate data collection and verification, helping to strengthen the consistency, transparency and scalability of corporate climate transition assessments over time.
Number of datapoints: We anticipate there will be approximately 70 data points.
Time to review: The validation should take 2 to 5 hours.
Data required validation by the company is associated with indicators 01A to C01D, C02A, D01A, E01A to E01D and F01A indicators of the ACT Core methodology.
Please note – companies will only be asked to review the data itself (e.g., confirming their current and historic emissions disclosure, emissions reduction targets, CAPEX and low-carbon CAPEX values etc.).
As companies will only be asked to review the data itself, this is different from the feedback process previously used for other WBA benchmarks (where companies reviewed their assessments, including whether they scored ‘met’ or ‘unmet’ for each element).
Yes. We understand that due to workload, holidays etc. you may need more time to review and validate the data. If this is the case, you can request a three-week extension directly in the feedback portal.
To do so, first log into the portal using the credentials provided, and then select the profile icon in the top-right corner of the page.
Select your company name, and in the subsequent dialog box tick ‘Request Deadline Extension’ and then click the ‘Request Extension’ button.
The portal will then refresh, and retracing these steps you will see three weeks have been added to the Feedback Period End date. If the date does not appear to have changed, please click ‘Request Extension’ again and reconfirm.
If you have any further questions regarding the validation process, please contact us at [email protected].
