Alliance

Believing in the power of multi-stakeholder, cross-sector partnerships to drive systemic progress.

Our multi-stakeholder Alliance plays a significant role in helping WBA become a truly effective global organisation and in driving system transformation towards a sustainable future. WBA Allies represent organisations working at global, regional, and local levels to drive measurable and accountable business action. They help us ensure our data, insights and expertise are used by companies, investors, policy-makers and civil society; and help us transform our work to create meaningful impact.

Participation in the Alliance is completely voluntary and comes with no financial commitments. Companies aren’t part of the Alliance to avoid any conflicts of interest, though WBA stays in regular conversation with business leaders to keep its work relevant. Financial institutions are included because they actively use the benchmarks and have real influence over company behaviour.

From its inception, WBA has understood that success rests on our ability to build a diverse and inclusive global network of stakeholders from the public, private, and civil society sectors.

With seven different stakeholder groups making up the Alliance, WBA works to understand and unlock the potential of each through their distinct roles in holding business accountable towards the SDGs.

Why join the Alliance?

For Allies, WBA provides a collaborative and solutions-oriented platform to highlight successful models of action, build upon and scale existing efforts, facilitate cross-sector partnerships between like-minded organisations, and increase the scope and ambition of efforts. WBA keeps its Allies up to date and regularly invites Allies to work with us on upcoming activities (such as reports, events etc).

The Alliance serves as:

  1. A global community of leading stakeholders committed to driving forward business action and accountability;
  2. An opportunity for knowledge-sharing and partnership-building based on shared goals, priorities, and experiences;
  3. A structured space in which to provide input on metrics and indicators for assessing, comparing, and holding accountable corporate performance on people and the planet;
  4. A forum for advancing critical conversations and solutions around business action, financing, as well as systems-level transformations; and
  5. An opportunity to help shape WBA, an institution dedicated to providing a public good that transforms business impact on people and the planet.
