The World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) was launched in 2018 because we believed that there needs to be real change in the way that business impact is measured to stimulate action for a sustainable future for everyone.
WBA identified seven transformations that need to take place to put society and the worldwide economy on a more sustainable path to achieve the SDGs. To turn these transformations into action, WBA develops in close collaboration with the Alliance a series of benchmarks assessing 2,000 of the world’s most influential companies, ranking and holding them accountable on their contributions to a sustainable future for people and the planet.
This information is freely available to everyone, empowering investors, governments, civil society, individuals, and the companies themselves. Investors are better equipped to influence the companies they support, Governments develop more effective policies, while civil society gains clearer direction for public support and partnership efforts.
These benchmarks will show both companies and stakeholders how each company compares with its peers, where improvements can be made, and where urgent action is needed to deliver on the SDGs. By ranking and measuring company performance, the benchmarks will help turn business into a force for good—providing clear guidance for driving change and creating accountability for those that fail to act.
