2024 Automotive and Transportation Manufacturers Benchmark Insights Report

The World Benchmarking Alliance Climate and Energy Benchmark measures and ranks the world’s 30 most influential automotive manufacturers on their alignment to a low-carbon world. The 2024 benchmark is the fourth iteration since the benchmark was launched in 2019. The assessment combines the ACT (Assessing Low Carbon Transition) Automotive methodology and the WBA social and just transition indicators. This approach provides a holistic evaluation of companies’ efforts to achieve a low-carbon transition that is just and equitable.

In addition to the 30 automotive manufacturers, 14 manufacturers of other transportation modes besides automotives have been included for greater coverage of the transport activities and resulting emissions. This assessment is the first look into the climate performance of these companies that manufacture aircraft, ships, trains, trucks, and buses. This way, both passengers and freight transportation are covered.

The integration of these companies allows for a deeper analysis of the sectoral value chain of the manufacturers of transport solutions. These 14 manufacturers have been assessed using the ACT Generic methodology.
