Fast tracking nature: Leveraging climate maturity for nature transition

Over the past decade, more companies than ever have adopted sustainability commitments and targets on climate, nature and social issues. Yet real-world delivery has not kept pace with that ambition, creating a clear accountability gap between corporate commitments and delivery.

Corporate transition plans are one of the clearest ways to turn commitments into action and close this accountability gap. In simple terms, a transition plan sets out how a company intends to change its operations, investments and business model over time to reach a stated goal, and how it will track and report progress along the way. The groundwork for corporate transition planning has been built over the better part of a decade through incremental developments, first in climate, then in nature. These developments are now creating opportunities for a more integrated approach to corporate transition planning.

The objective of this report is to assess how far the groundwork laid by climate transition planning can accelerate corporate action on nature. Drawing on disclosures from 750 companies across 19 industries and 53 countries, it tests which practical aspects of climate practice, including but not limited to disclosure frameworks, risk governance structures, and existing measurement capabilities, are associated with stronger nature action, and how companies could benefit from adapting these components from climate to nature rather than building it from the ground up.
