Edeka is among the largest supermarket chains in Germany, consisting of several cooperatives of independent supermarkets under the umbrella corporation Edeka Zentrale. First founded in 1898 and renamed as Edeka in 1918, today the company has over 13,000 stores, 3,700 independent merchants and over 350,000 employees across every region of Germany, which is the only market the group is active in.
