BASF is one of the world's largest chemical producers. Headquarted in Germany, BASF is active in 80 countries and operates close to 400 production sites. Its business segments are chemicals, materials, industrial solutions, surface technologies, nutrition and care, and agricultural solutions. The company is active in both conventional plant breeding, such as through its vegetable seed subsidiary Nunhems, and genetic engineering on field crops. In 2018, BASF acquired a range of businesses and assets from Bayer, after the latter's purchase of Monsanto.
