Established by the City of São Paulo in 1968, Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo (CMSP) is responsible for operating and expanding the metro network and planning passenger transport in the São Paulo metropolitan region. Its metro network spans 104.4 kilometres with six lines and 91 stations.
Summary
Sao Paulo Metro publishes reports in Portuguese, demonstrating transparency. However, as the 2024 Urban Benchmark only assesses reports in English, Sao Paulo Metro was not included in this year’s assessment.
The company’s exclusion from the assessment does not reflect the quality or scope of its disclosures. We acknowledge its reporting and efforts towards transparency. Regardless, given the company’s significant scale and global influence, we recommend Sao Paulo Metro to consider providing its sustainability reports in English. Doing so will enhance the company’s engagement with international stakeholders, facilitating broader recognition of its achievements and alignment with global sustainability frameworks. It will also showcase the impact of its stewardship in advancing sustainable urban development on the world stage.
