It extends this commitment to its business relationships and discloses how it monitors supplier health and safety performance. Additionally, it expects its business relationships to enforce a 48-hour regular work week and 60-hour limit with overtime. It further discloses the proportion of its workforce covered by collective bargaining agreements, as well as the percentage of its workforce for each employee category by age group and by gender.

Moreover, the company publicly commits to gender equality and women’s empowerment. It reached its goal of increasing women’s representation in leadership by 40% by the end of 2022 and aims for gender balance in management positions by 2025. Currently, women make up 35.71% of the board.

To improve communication, it should provide more details about empowering suppliers to prevent child labour issues.

Farmer and fisher livelihoods
The company has set up initiatives to improve the efficiency of coffee production and the sustainability of the farms but it has an opportunity to demonstrate how it improves farmers’ income resilience through its procurement practices and supply chain relationships. Furthermore, it could identify living income benchmarks and assess living income gaps for some regions or commodities.

Forced labour
The company prohibits suppliers from imposing unreasonable restrictions on workers’ freedom of movement and from denying access to their identity documents unless required by law. However, it could disclose stronger commitment language and extend a firm prohibition to follow these practices to its operations. While the company does not allow suppliers to use recruitment fees, it could provide evidence of a similar commitment for its operations. Furthermore, it could indicate how it is building the capacity of its suppliers to prevent forced labour impacts.

Act ethically
The company has an opportunity to disclose a publicly available policy statement that specifies that it does not make political contributions. Furthermore, while it discloses some information regarding its lobbying expenditures, it has an opportunity to disclose the expenditures in all locations where it carries out lobbying activities or specify it only does so in specific countries or regions.

The company has an opportunity to describe the process for identifying its human rights risks and impacts in specific locations or activities, covering its own operations. The company describes the process of assessing more than 10,000 supplier locations on the basis of inherent human rights risk. Also, it discloses the topics covered in its new Human Rights Policy, i.e. discrimination, forced labour, child labour, collective bargaining, fair wages, human treatment, and safe working conditions. However, it is unclear how the company has prioritised these topics. Thus, it could describe its process for assessing its human rights risks in its operations and could disclose a global system to act on, prevent or mitigate its salient human rights issues.
