Bayer is a life science company with three divisions: Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Health and Crop Science. The Crop Science division is the company’s agricultural enterprise, with businesses in crop protection, seeds and non-agricultural pest control. The Crop Protection/Seeds operating unit markets a broad portfolio of high-value seeds and innovative pest management solutions, while at the same time providing extensive customer service for sustainable agriculture. Consumer Health is a leading supplier of nonprescription (over-the-counter, OTC) medicines, nutritional supplements, medicated skincare products and other self-care solutions. In August 2018, Bayer completed the USD 66 billion takeover of the US-based company Monsanto. As a result of this acquisition, Bayer has divested part of its seed activities and portfolios to German chemical company BASF.
Bayer ranks fourth in the agricultural inputs segment. The company’s environment and governance and strategy measurement areas are in the top 10% compared to its peers, while its nutrition and social inclusion performance are in the top 20%. In the governance and strategy measurement area, Bayer outperforms all but one of its peers.
