Trend

Duke Energy is awarded a trend score of =.  If the company were reassessed in the near future, its score would likely remain about the same. In the short to medium term, Duke Energy’s plans to replace coal with gas will reduce its emissions intensity, but additional action will soon be needed to avoid gas emissions. The company’s targeting is not ambitious enough for alignment with its well-below 2-degree pathway. The company does have a business segment focused on renewables deployment and other low-carbon business models, but its main focus is firmly on high levels of gas power in its generation mix. Duke Energy’s integrated resource plans (required by the US states in which it operates as a regulated utility) discuss the future of current assets in the context of regulatory compliance.
