Respect human rights
Yokorei has an opportunity to strengthen its expectation on its business relationships to commit to respecting freedom of association and collective bargaining in all locations of operation. With regards to human rights due diligence, the company could disclose its processes to identify, assess and take action to address its salient human rights risks and impacts, and demonstrate how it engages with affected and potentially affected stakeholders. It could also develop grievance mechanisms for workers and external individuals to report concerns related to human rights.
Provide and promote decent work
To strengthen its disclosure around living wage, Yokorei could describe how it determines a living wage in the locations its operates in. It could also take the opportunity to make a public commitment to protecting the health and safety of workers and place the same expectation on its suppliers, and disclose health and safety information in line with GRI 403-9. Also, it could publicly state that workers shall not be required to work more than 48 hours in a regular work week or 60 hours including overtime, and require the same of its suppliers. It could also disclose the proportion of its total direct operations workforce covered by collective bargaining agreements.
Act ethically
While it has a commitment to prohibiting bribery and corruption, it could also take the opportunity to place this expectation on its suppliers in a public policy. Furthermore, it could describe its approach to political engagement and lobbying, and disclose its lobbying expenditure and that it makes no political contributions. With regards to taxation, it could disclose its tax strategy publicly, as well as its income tax paid by jurisdiction in all locations of operation.
