Act ethically
The company has an opportunity to include anti-bribery and anti-corruption clauses in its contracts with business relationships and establish a process to identify risks and impacts related to bribery and corruption.
Furthermore, the company could demonstrate ethical conduct by publishing a policy statement that outlines its approach to lobbying and political engagement and emphasises its non-participation in political contributions, or alternatively, states the criteria of exceptions. It could also transparently disclose all lobbying expenditures.
Provide and promote decent work
The company has an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to its operations and supply chain workers’ health and safety by disclosing a policy statement and providing evidence of monitoring suppliers’ compliance. Additionally, it could set a time-bound target for ensuring all workers receive a living wage, describe the living wage determination methodology, and disclose strategies to support suppliers in paying a living wage.
Furthermore, the company could commit to gender equality and women’s empowerment as well as disclose related targets. It could also disclose that it strives to have at least 30% women on the board of directors and report the ratio of the basic salary and remuneration of women to men in its total direct operations workforce for each employee category, by significant locations of operation.
Respect human rights
The company has a publicly available statement committing to adhere to labour laws and human rights regulations in the workplace. However, there is an opportunity to formalise it in a policy document. Moreover, it could disclose a policy statement that respects the International Labour Organization (ILO) fundamental rights at work and extending this expectation to its business relationships.
Additionally, the company could describe the process for identifying human rights risks and impacts in specific activities or locations, covering both its operations and supply chain, as well as the process for assessing and identifying its salient human rights issues. Moreover, the company could establish a global system to address these salient human rights issues by implementing preventive, mitigative, or remedial measures.
