L Brands sells lingerie, personal care and beauty products, apparel and accessories through nearly 3,000 company-owned speciality stores in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Greater China. Its brands are also sold in more than 650 franchised locations worldwide. The company employs more than 92,300 people across its operations and had a revenue of US$11.8 billion in 2020.
Summary
L Brands ranks 27th in this year’s Gender Benchmark with a score of 17.0 out of 100. It displays leading practice in 3 out of 34 indicators and is among the better performers on compensation and benefits in the workplace and representation in the supply chain. However, the company lags behind industry peers in all measurement areas overall, most notably governance and strategy and violence and harassment.
L Brands has a global policy of providing 14 weeks of paid primary carer leave , as recommended by the ILO, and six weeks of paid secondary carer leave to full-time employees. Moreover, it offers childcare discounts for off-site care as well as back up child, adult and elderly care to its employees. In the supply chain, the company has made a public commitment to gender-responsive procurement , listing Women Business Enterprise as one of the third-parties certifications that must be met to be considered for its supplier diversity programme. It is also a member of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
However, L Brands has not established gender-related targets, nor does it engage with employees or external stakeholders on gender issues. While the company states it does not tolerate discrimination or harassment in the workplace and has established a violence and harassment policy , it does not require its suppliers to have a policy covering their workers. Moreover, L Brands does not actively prevent violence and harassment in the workplace or supply chain, for example, by providing training to managers and workers.
