Act ethically
While the legal department oversees its anti-corruption policy, and the internal audit department, in conjunction with the legal department, investigates violations of the policy, there is an opportunity for the company to describe its process for identifying its bribery and corruption risks. Additionally, although the company has a mechanism for stakeholders to raise related concerns, it could clarify whether this mechanism is accessible to all stakeholders and if complainants have the option to reveal their identity or report anonymously.
Furthermore, the company could create a policy outlining its lobbying and political engagement approach. While it states that it makes political contributions only with approval from the Chief Legal Officer, it could disclose whether these contributions are made only under exceptional circumstances, and reveal the criteria for making these exceptions. The company could also disclose its expenditures related to lobbying activities.
Provide and promote decent work
While the company states that it provides compensation above the regulatory minimum wage standards, it has an opportunity to commit to paying a living wage by setting a time-bound target. It could also disclose how it determines a living wage for the regions where it operates. Additionally, while the company has set expectations on the wage paid by its suppliers, it has an opportunity to add a requirement for them to pay a living wage, and disclose how it supports the payment.
Furthermore, although the company discloses that it has achieved its gender-related goals in 2022, the company has an opportunity to disclose renewed time-bound targets. The company could also report information including the ratio of the basic salary and remuneration of women to men.
Respect human rights
The company has an opportunity to disclose a policy statement committing it to respect human rights. While the company discloses statements committing it to respect the ILO’s fundamental rights at work in its operations and supply chain, it has an opportunity to use stronger language to turn these statements into a formal commitment.
Furthermore, while the company proactively identifies, prevents and mitigates human rights risks, it can elaborate on its process for identifying its human rights risks and impacts within its operations and supply chain. The company could also outline its process for assessing and identifying its salient human rights issues. Moreover, the company could disclose a global system to act on, prevent or mitigate its salient human rights issues.
