Act ethically
The company has an opportunity to disclose a policy prohibiting bribery and corruption, integrate relevant clauses into business contracts, and detail its method for detecting such misconduct. While there is a mechanism for grievance reporting, the company could clarify that this covers all stakeholders, and that there is an option for the complainant to identify themselves or remain anonymous. Additionally, it could disclose how it approaches lobbying and political engagement in a public policy document, specify that it does not make any political contributions, and divulge how much it spends on lobbying activities.
Provide and promote decent work
While affirming the integration of worker health and safety in its corporate principles, the company has the potential to formalise this commitment within a public policy statement and extend the same expectation to its suppliers, with a corresponding compliance monitoring system in place. Further, it could set a time-bound target for paying all workers a living wage or declare that this has been achieved. The company could further elaborate on its approach to determining a living wage regionally, and how it assists suppliers in adhering to these standards.
Additionally, extending beyond its commitment to diversity, the company could pledge to gender equality and women’s empowerment. It could further disclose related time-bound targets, along with disclosing data on women’s representation in the highest governance body, as well as the ratio of women’s basic salary and remuneration to that of men.
Respect human rights
The company acknowledges the significance of upholding human rights within its operations and supply chain. It can translate this into a formal policy commitment. Further, while it commits to respect specific workers’ rights, it could extend this commitment to encompass all ILO fundamental rights at work and extend the same expectation to tis suppliers.
Additionally, the company has an opportunity to elaborate on its comprehensive process for identifying human rights risks and impacts across its activities and supply chain. It could provide insights into its methods for assessing and identifying salient human rights issues. Moreover, the company has the potential to unveil a global system aimed at preventing, mitigating and remediating its salient human rights issues.
