Act ethically
The company includes anti-bribery and anti-corruption clauses in its contracts with business relationships, but has an opportunity to specify the consequences of breaching these clauses, and to process for identifying its bribery and corruption risks and impacts in specific locations or activities.
The company outlines its approach to lobbying and political engagement and states that it makes political contributions only after approval from the Legal Department. However, it could formalise this approach in a public policy document and disclose the criteria for approval. The company could also disclose its expenditures on lobbying activities, and a requirement for third-party lobbyists to comply with its lobbying and political engagement policy.
Provide and promote decent work
While the company states that it pays minimum wage to its employees, it has an opportunity to commit to paying a living wage by setting a time-bound target. Similarly, while the company has set expectations on the wage paid by its suppliers, it has an opportunity to add a requirement for them to pay a living wage, and disclose how it supports the payment.
While the company is committed to diversity and equal pay for equal work, it has an opportunity to explicitly commit to gender equality and women’s empowerment and to disclose the ratio of the basic salary and remuneration of women to men in its total direct operations workforce for each employee category. The company discloses the portion of board members that are women, but it is currently below the 30% threshold.
Respect human rights
The company has an opportunity to disclose a policy statement committing it to respect human rights. Currently, the company has a publicly available policy statement committing it to respect specific workers’ rights and expects its suppliers to make the same commitment, but it has an opportunity to reference all the ILO fundamental rights at work, including freedom of association. The company could also describe the process for identifying and mitigating its human rights risks and impacts in specific locations or activities, covering its supply chain, and disclose the results of its human rights risk assessment.
