Act ethically
The company has an opportunity to establish a process to identify risks and impacts related to bribery and corruption. While it has a mechanism for stakeholders to raise bribery and corruption concerns, it is unclear if this mechanism is accessible to all stakeholders.
The company has a publicly available policy statement setting out its lobbying approach. However, it could further demonstrate ethical conduct by publishing a policy statement that outlines its approach to political engagement, emphasises its non-participation in political contributions, or alternatively, states the criteria of exceptions. It could also transparently disclose all lobbying expenditures and add a requirement for third-party lobbyists to comply with its lobbying and political engagement policy.
Provide and promote decent work
The company has a health and safety policy but could use stronger language to show a commitment to health and safety. Moreover, it has an opportunity to disclose how it monitors the health and safety performance of its suppliers.
The company states that it pays minimum wage to its employees; however, it has an opportunity to commit to paying a living wage by setting a time-bound target and to disclose how it determines a living wage for the regions where it operates. While it has set expectations on the wage paid by its suppliers, it has an opportunity to add a requirement for them to pay a living wage, and disclose how it supports the payment. Additionally, it could report the ratio of the basic salary and remuneration of women to men in its total direct operations workforce.
Respect human rights
The company has an opportunity to strengthen its commitment to human rights and the International Labour Organization (ILO) fundamental rights at work by translating these statements into a formal policy document. The company expects its suppliers to respect specific workers’ rights but has an opportunity to reference all the ILO fundamental rights at work and ensure it applies across all contexts and locations.
Additionally, while it has conducted a materiality assessment, it has an opportunity to disclose how it identifies human rights risks and impacts in specific locations or activities, covering its own operations and supply chain. It could also disclose the process for assessing and identifying its salient human rights issues and disclose what it considers as salient human rights issues for the company. Moreover, the company could establish a global system to address these salient human rights issues by implementing preventive, mitigative, or remedial measures.
