Leading practices

The financial institution transparently identifies the nature-related impacts associated with its provision of products, services and capital.

Risks and opportunities

The institution has a publicly available policy statement committing to respect specific workers’ rights but could reference all ILO fundamental rights at work. It has the opportunity to disclose its method for determining a living wage in its operational regions and to publish a policy statement prohibiting bribery and corruption. Including anti-bribery and anti-corruption clauses in contracts with business partners is also recommended.

Linking senior executive remuneration performance criteria to sustainability targets is advised, along with establishing a stewardship policy that supports environmental transitions and social best practices. The institution should disclose monitoring of scope 3 categories and transparently detail the methodology for its footprint calculation. A transition plan covering its operations, supply chain, and portfolio is recommended, as well as ensuring scope 1-3 emissions reduce in line with interim targets.

Disclosing the breakdown of clients and/or beneficiaries by income group is suggested. While the risk assessment process includes some ILO fundamental rights, it could cover the full set. A process for mitigating identified risks should be disclosed, along with an example of conclusions and actions taken regarding at least one salient human rights issue from the last three years.
