It was initially formed in 1991 as a result of the merger of Algemene Bank Nederland and Amsterdamsche en Rotterdamsche Bank. An additional merger took place in 2010, with Fortis Bank Nederland. Based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the financial institution operates in 13 countries and had 19,957 employees in 2021. 50.1% of the total shares of ABN AMRO are listed on Euronext Amsterdam.
