Mariana is the Engagement Manager for WBA’s Urban Benchmark, which will assess the 400 most influential companies within the urban space during 2024. Her main role is to disseminate the work carried out by the team as well as developing meaningful and strategic stakeholder engagement. Through this relationships, which include but local governments, policy-makers, multilateral organizations, civil society organisations and sustainable cities advocates, she will work to bring about change in the way we think about urban settlements.

Prior to this position, Mariana was also part of our Research Team for 2.5 years, where she worked on our Food and Agriculture Benchmark, and more recently on our Nature Benchmark. Through these experiences, she is also being instrumental to the development of the methodology of our Urban Benchmark, in the hopes that we can bring the so-much-needed transparency on the role of corporates in the cities.

Before joining WBA, she worked with companies as a sustainability and CSR consultant in Mexico, focusing on sustainability strategy, corporate governance, disclosure frameworks and sustainability indices.

After her BA in International Relations in Mexico, she completed two Master’s programmes in management and in corporate sustainability strategy, in Paris. As part of her programmes, she wrote two master thesis on corporate governance, double materiality and legal frameworks leading to successful corporate disclosure.
