The Methodology for the 2023 Gender Benchmark

This methodology report lays out the metrics the World Benchmarking Alliance used to assess and rank 112 companies in our 2023 Gender Benchmark. It captures how society expects companies to drive and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment across their entire value chain. This 2023 Gender Benchmark included companies from two sectors: the apparel sector and the food and agriculture sector.

The report also details how we assessed 2,000 of the largest and most influential companies globally – also known as the ‘SDG2000’ – on a subset of this methodology. 1,006 companies were assessed in 2023, and 996 companies were assessed in 2024.
