2022 Financial System Benchmark
This is the inaugural Financial System Benchmark, assessing 400 keystone companies across the entire financial system on their progress to supporting a just and sustainable economy.
This benchmark provides insight on the disclosure and transparency of interconnected institutions within the global financial system; banks, insurance companies, pension funds, asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, development finance institutions and investment consultants. All 400 institutions in the benchmark either directly or indirectly influence people and planet and the flow of money in and across developed and developing market economies. The benchmark covers governance, planetary boundaries and human rights and social issues.
The benchmark demonstrates that despite commitments to change, financial institutions are disconnected from what society expects from them. Across all measurement areas, the findings reveal worrying gaps in the sector’s adaptation to climate change, progress on human rights and integration of impact considerations into financial institutions’ core strategy and governance structures.
