TransMilenio, based in Bogotá, Colombia, is a government-owned bus rapid transit (BRT) system established in 2000. It spans 1,114 kilometres with 138 stations, and serves around 2.4 million passengers daily. The system includes 2,364 buses, including 655 electric buses, and employs 15,256 drivers to facilitate urban transportation across the city and its neighbouring areas.
Summary
TransMilenio publishes reports in Spanish, demonstrating transparency. Although the 2024 Urban Benchmark only assesses reports in English, TransMilenio has provided translations of their reports in English for the assessments. Therefore, the assessment partially reflects their disclosures in Spanish.
We acknowledge TransMilenio’s reporting and efforts towards transparency. Regardless, given the company’s significant scale and global influence, we recommend TransMilenio to consider providing its sustainability reports in English. Doing so will enhance the company’s engagement with international stakeholders, facilitating broader recognition of its achievements and alignment with global sustainability frameworks. It will also showcase the impact of its stewardship in advancing sustainable urban development on the world stage.
