The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), headquartered in Casablanca, is a Moroccan state-owned enterprise responsible for delivering energy, water and sanitation services to the country of Morocco. ONEE was created in 2012 with the merger of the National Office of Electricity (ONE) and the National Office of Drinking Water (ONEP). It is involved in major national infrastructure projects for the production, transport and distribution of electricity and water as well as the purification of wastewater.
Summary
ONEE publishes reports in Arabic, demonstrating transparency. However, as the 2024 Urban Benchmark only assesses reports in English, ONEE was not included in this year’s assessment.
The company’s exclusion from the assessment does not reflect the quality or scope of its disclosures. We acknowledge its reporting and efforts towards transparency. Regardless, given the company’s significant scale and global influence, we recommend ONEE to consider providing its sustainability reports in English. Doing so will enhance the company’s engagement with international stakeholders, facilitating broader recognition of its achievements and alignment with global sustainability frameworks. It will also showcase the impact of its stewardship in advancing sustainable urban development on the world stage.
