Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit is a public benefit corporation responsible for overseeing transportation across the New York City metropolitan area in the state of New York, United States. Established in 1965, MTA is the largest public transit authority in North America, serving over 11 million passengers systemwide on an average weekday. Additionally, MTA manages over 850,000 vehicles passing through its seven toll bridges and two tunnels on weekdays.
