Walmart is the world's largest retailer by revenue, serving an estimated 265 million customers weekly across 11,500 stores and 56 e-commerce banners. It is also the largest employer, with an estimated 2.2 million employees. The company has three business segments – Walmart US, Walmart International and Sam's Club – and operates through many wholly and majority-owned subsidiaries in a further 27 countries outside of its home market. Walmart was founded in 1945 by Sam Walton and incorporated in 1965. The Walton family remains the majority stakeholder to this day.
