KWS, founded in 1856, is a family-owned plant-breeding company which, together with its subsidiaries, today has a global operational and sales presence in over 70 countries. KWS has 45 breeding stations that focus on moderate climatic zones in Europe, North and South America and China. It operates primarily through its maize, sugar beet and cereals divisions. KWS has recently acquired two vegetable seed companies, namely Pop Vriend Seeds in 2019 and Geneplanta S.r.l. in 2021.
