Act ethically
While the company prohibits bribery and corruption, formalising this stance in a public policy document could lend greater weight to the commitment. It could also describe its process for identifying risks and impacts of bribery and corruption in its operations across specific locations or activities. Additionally, the company could strengthen its supplier contracts by including explicit anti-bribery and anti-corruption clauses. It also needs to ensure that there is a grievance mechanism that is accessible to all stakeholders.
Furthermore, the company could establish a formal policy for lobbying and political engagement. It could disclose a policy statement that specifies it does not make such contributions, and be more transparent about its lobbying expenditures.
Provide and promote decent work
While the company states that it pays minimum wage to its employees, the company could commit to paying a living wage by setting a time-bound target and disclosing how it determines a living wage for different regions. It could also disclose how it supports its suppliers in paying a living wage. In terms of health and safety, the company could disclose policy statements committing both itself and its suppliers to worker health and safety.
Furthermore, although the company reports progress on its corporate gender strategy, it could set time-bound targets for gender equality and women’s empowerment. It also has an opportunity to disclose the ratio of the basic salary and remuneration of women to men.
Respect human rights
The company already has a publicly available policy statement on human rights, but it could strengthen this by using more formal language that commits to respecting the ILO’s fundamental rights at work. Similarly, it could extend this expectation to its suppliers. Additionally, it could describe its process for identifying human rights risks and impacts both in its own operations and in its supply chain. Moreover, it could elaborate on its process for assessing what it considers to be its most significant human rights issues. It could further disclose a global system to act on, prevent or mitigate its salient human rights issues.
