Tongaat Hulett is an agriculture and agri-processing business, focusing on the complementary feedstocks of sugarcane and maize. The company was formed through a merger between the Hulett Corporation Limited and the Tongaat Group Limited, with both their operations dating back to the 1800s. Tongaat Hulett's sugar operations are mainly concentrated in South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Eswatini, with a central refinery in Durban, South Africa producing 600,000 tonnes of sugar annually. In addition, the company processes approximately 670,000 tonnes of maize annually into starch and starch-based products, serving customers both domestically and internationally.
