Mosaic
The Mosaic Company (Mosaic) was created in 2004 with the merger of IMC Global and Cargill's fertilizer divisions. Today, Mosaic is one of the world's largest vertically integrated phosphate and potash fertilizer manufacturers, with mine locations in the US and Canada and an annual operational production capacity of 26.6 million tonnes. The company expanded its global presence with the acquisition of Brazilian company Vale Fertilizantes in 2018.
Segment ranking summary
Mosaic ranks 18th in the agricultural inputs segment. It outperforms most of its peers in environment, especially due to its efforts to optimise fertiliser use at scale and its water use reduction target. Its social inclusion performance is typical for this segment, with commitments and qualitative evidence related to supporting farmer productivity, but lax policies for protecting human rights and livelihoods. Despite being in the top half of agricultural inputs companies for governance and strategy, Mosaic lacks targets across all of its priority sustainability topics and remuneration incentives for their pursuit. In the nutrition measurement area, Mosaic has the opportunity to live up to its commitments in food security by integrating nutrition solutions into its portfolio, for example via biofortification products.
