Cosan
Cosan is a Brazilian conglomerate, investing in agribusiness, fuel and natural gas distribution and lubricants. Founded in São Paulo in 1936, the company now operates in six countries. Cosan has a joint venture with Shell, Raizen, which is among Brazil's largest companies by revenue and a sugar exporter operating through 65 global distribution centres.
Segment ranking summary
The company ranks 76th in the agricultural products and commodities segment. The company lags behind its peers in the this segment, particularly in the nutrition measurement area. It has a long way to go to ensure the availability and access to nutritious and fortified sugar options. There is also opportunity for the company to protect the rights of its workers by setting strong commitments around child and forced labour, health and safety and farmer livelihoods. While many of its peers have set time-bound targets to reduce its scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Cosan’s Raizen has only started this journey.
