It was founded in 1873, when an investor group bought the Rio Tinto mines in Spain. Headquartered in the United Kingdom, the company is present in 35 countries across six continents. Most of its assets are in Australia and North America, but it also has operations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central and South America. In 2022, it reported USD 55.6 in revenue and employed 54,000 people globally.
