A working group to track just transition progress

The Just Transition Working Group, convened by the World Benchmarking Alliance in November 2023, brings together international experts to advance how we track and assess just transition progress—particularly in the context of corporate action. The group’s core purpose is to support the development and use of methodologies and tools that help evaluate the robustness of the ‘just’ in companies’ transition plans. By improving monitoring and evaluation, the group aims to identify key gaps and offer insights into how these can be addressed over time.
Through deep dives into company and sector-level plans, case studies, and analysis of policy frameworks, the working group contributes to shaping a comprehensive accountability framework for just transitions. This work is relevant not only to climate reporting standards – both voluntary and mandatory – but also to national and regional policymakers striving for coherent and effective just transition strategies. By examining how policies interact across levels, the group highlights the real-world impact on workers, communities, and stakeholders, and seeks to bridge the gap between ambition and implementation.
