Founded in 1909 as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, it was renamed British Petroleum Company Ltd. in 1954 and later shortened to BP. The company engages in oil and gas exploration, production, refining, and marketing, as well as solar, wind, and chemicals. Its brands include BP, Castrol, and Aral. BP is in the Fortune Global 500, Forbes Global 2000, and the FTSE 100 Index.
