James Gomme

Director, Equity Action and a member of the Extended Leadership Group at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development

James is Director of Equity Action and a member of the Extended Leadership Group at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the leading voice of business in scaling up private sector solutions to some of the most pressing global sustainability challenges.

James currently heads up WBCSD’s work around the social side of the sustainable development agenda, working with forward-thinking global companies and their leaders to drive systemic transformation in support of shared prosperity for all. James oversees projects across the social sustainability landscape around topics such as human rights due diligence, diversity and inclusion, the future of work, and living wages and incomes.

As part of this role, James is also Executive Director of the Business Commission to Tackle Inequality (BCTI), a cross-sectoral coalition of more than 60 organizations and their leaders representing business, civil society, intergovernmental institutions, academia, the labor movement, and the investor community who have come together to mobilize the private sector to address the critical systemic risk of mounting inequality.

James joined WBCSD in March 2016 from Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan’s largest trading and investment company. During more than a decade at Mitsubishi Corporation James led teams across a variety of corporate sustainability, public affairs and investor relations roles in both Europe and Japan. He has an undergraduate degree from Durham University and an MBA from Madrid’s IE Business School.
