This “Seafood Stewardship Index” feasibility study focuses on the role of leading seafood companies in promoting stewardship of natural resources and production chains. Seafood companies have an important role in enabling the transition to a more sustainable seafood production system, so there is a strong case for developing this index. Improving this can directly contribute to SDG 2 (zero hunger) and SDG 14 (life below water) and can have a positive impact on SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production) and SDG 15 (life on land).
The coming period, WBA will focus on developing the methodology and scope for the Seafood Stewardship Index. Stakeholder consultations are an integral part of this process.
