Shoprite is among Africa's largest fast-moving consumer goods retailers. Based in South Africa, the company operates around 2,500 outlets in 11 countries across Africa and the Indian Ocean islands. The company's core business is food retailing, while also having business activities across furniture, pharmaceuticals, household products, hospitality, logistics, property, and financial services. Shoprite operates their supermarket activities through four major brands, Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Unsave. Freshmark, the group's fruit and vegetable procurement and distribution arm, works with 1,114 growers to source its products, and is one among the largest purchasers of fresh produce in Africa.
