Kering is a luxury group with a portfolio of accessory (leather goods, jewellery, watches) and apparel brands, including Gucci and Saint Laurent. With global operations and core markets in Japan, North America, Asia Pacific and Europe, the company has over 38,500 employees worldwide. In 2020, the company’s revenue was US$14.9 billion.
Summary
Kering ranks ninth in this year’s Gender Benchmark with a score of 44.6 out of 100. It displays leading practice across 8 out of 34 indicators and is ahead of industry peers in compensation and benefits and representation. It also shows strong performance on governance and strategy at the corporate level. However, the company lags behind on violence and harassment and health and well-being, particularly in the supply chain.
Kering updated its Baby Leave policy in 2020 to offer 14 weeks of paid primary and secondary carer leave to its employees globally. It is also the only company to implement concrete actions that promote the uptake of secondary carer leave by highlighting the experiences of employees who took leave. Moreover, Kering discloses the gender balance of its workforce across 12 different occupational functions. It has also established two gender-related targets, aiming to achieve a balanced gender mix and equal pay at all levels of the organisation by 2025.
While Kering has a notable Global Policy on Domestic Violence that provides support to its employees, the policy does not cover violence and harassment in the workplace. Furthermore, it requires suppliers to have a violence and harassment policy that covers their women workers, though does not provide them with support in preventing violence and harassment, for example, by offering training to managers and workers. Furthermore, the company does not require its suppliers to address the specific health, safety and hygiene needs of women workers or have an on-site health clinic with credentialed providers.
