Headquartered in China’s Fujian province, ANTA International Group Holdings owns ANTA Sports Products, a leading sportswear company offering performance and fashion footwear, apparel and accessories across 10,057 stores. The company employs 25,000 people and had US$5.1 billion in revenue in 2020.
Summary
ANTA is among the weakest performing companies, ranking 30th in this year’s Gender Benchmark with a low score of 8.4 out of 100. While it displays leading practice in 1 out of 34 indicators and is among the better performers on compensation and benefits, the company lags behind industry peers in all other measurement areas, most notably governance and strategy and violence and harassment.
ANTA shows leading practice in its provision of on-site childcare facilities at some of its sites and by arranging annual staff family member visits and providing financial assistance to help parents and relatives of staff who live far away come together for reunions. It also requires formal, written contracts for women working in the supply chain. As for representation, ANTA collects data on the gender balance of its workforce by occupational function among its office, retail and factory staff. It also prohibits suppliers from discriminating against pregnant women, including pregnancy diagnoses before employment.
However, ANTA lacks an overall commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment across its full value chain. It has not established gender-related targets , nor does it engage with employees or external stakeholders on gender issues. Furthermore, while the company requires its suppliers to have a violence and harassment policy, there was no evidence that the company actively prevents violence and harassment offences or remediates grievances reported by employees or supply chain workers.
