Origin Energy
Origin Energy is a publicly listed company headquartered in Australia. In 2019, its revenue was US$10.33 billion and in 2018 its installed capacity was 6.03 GW. It is Australia’s largest renewable energy retailer, providing wind energy to 330,000 homes and maintaining 360,000 solar PV accounts. However, the company is still largely dependent on fossil assets and planning on remaining so well past 2030, undermining its climate leadership aspirations.

Trend
Origin is awarded a trend score of -. If it were reassessed in the near future, its score would likely worsen. Currently, Origin intends to maintain its coal and gas plants until 2032 at the earliest. The target for renewable generation only extends to 2020, and there is no detail beyond that date. Therefore, we can only expect Origin’s emissions to decrease gradually. It is relying on the closure of Eraring for all of its targeted emissions reductions. It is likely that Origin will continue to fall behind its well-below 2-degree pathway. At the same time, it appears unlikely that the company will significantly reduce gas usage in the foreseeable future. Origin does not have plans for any significant new business streams.
