WBA at the UN Food Systems Pre-Summit

In September at the UNFSS we will launch the results of the Food and Agriculture Benchmark, Seafood Stewardship Index and Access to Seeds Index. We are measuring and ranking the performance of over 350 global companies on key issues underpinning the food systems agenda. The world needs companies to contribute to food systems transformation by taking care of the environment, ensuring access to healthy diets and putting people at the heart of their business models and activities.

From 26 July – 28 July at the UNFSS pre-summit, WBA is looking forward to joining the discussion to explore how our benchmarks can play a role in incentivising the private sector to build a better food system for everyone.  We welcome you to join the following events:

Approaches to Follow up and Review

When: Tuesday 27 July, 18.00 – 19.30 CEST

Gerbrand Haverkamp is part of a panel of key leaders who will discuss approaches to follow up and review, to ensure momentum is maintained beyond the Summit and that the national actions, coalitions, and collective learning is supported into the future for continuous impact. They will explore drawing on existing structures and what is needed.

Zero Hunger, Nourish the Future pledge for the private sector

When: Monday 26 July, 19.30 – 20:20 CEST 

Alongside GAIN, World Food Program, FAO, Grow Asia and Grow Africa, WBA will co-host a session to present the Zero Hunger, Nourish the Future pledge. The pledge seeks companies to help end hunger and nourish the future by aligning investments and business operations with new evidence on effective ways to achieve the goals, and to do this in parallel with donors, governments and global institutions. WBA will speak to its role as a potential review mechanism in the process.

Sustainable Finance – Setting the Agenda

When: Monday 26 July, 19.30 – 20.30 CEST

Rabobank is hosting a session to speak to the global shift that is needed to fully integrate sustainability KPIs into financing and move this market from its niche origins to the new normal. Drawing on how WBA’s Food & Agriculture Benchmark will be linked to Rabobanks sustainability loans, the session will explore how to further mainstream the incorporation of a sustainability KPIs in all loans issued in the food and agriculture sector

Launching a benchmark coalition to strengthen accountability mechanisms for the food industry

When: Wednesday 28th July, 13.30 – 4.30 CEST

Together with the Food Foundation we are hosting a session to discuss why and how we are launching a coalition to work towards a common “national benchmarking” methodology for measuring progress in the food industry towards healthy, just and sustainable food systems. The session provides the opportunity to joining an existing coalition that will shape a toolkit for national benchmarks across the globe.
