Alliance Action Forum at UNGA 77

Measuring and evaluating business impact is a critical part of the successful delivery of Agenda 2030. There are calls from governments and civil society – and increasingly from companies themselves – for better monitoring to ensure progress and alignment. However, the world currently lacks a mechanism to hold its most influential companies accountable for their impact and to see whether the actions lead to genuine transformational change on this shared agenda. Holistic transparency and accountability of private sector engagement and impact can support the aspiration the international community seeks for more equity, fairness and effectiveness in multilateral decision-making.

In this context, together, as a global and multi-stakeholder Alliance, how can we aspire to set action for corporate accountability firmly on the UN agenda, especially looking ahead to creating a roadmap to the Future Summit in 2023? How can we embed business accountability into the UN’s core working principles, turn narrative into commitments, and strengthen means of implementation for the SDGs?

Held in an interactive workshop format, the dialogue will have 30 multi-stakeholder participants (civil society, NGOs, business associations, academic institutions, investors, multilateral agencies, consultancies) from WBA’s global Alliance. It will be framed by interventions from representatives from each stakeholder group, all in line with the ambitions of the 77th Session of the General Assembly. See our Allies here.
