CF Industries is the world’s largest producer of ammonia, which is the base product for all nitrogen fertilisers and which can be used as a nitrogen fertiliser itself. The company has five manufacturing facilities in the United States, two in Canada and two in the United Kingdom. It also is part of a joint venture that operates a manufacturing facility in Trinidad & Tobago. CF Industries serves customers on every continent, with more than 80% of its sales taking place in North America. CF Industries' nitrogen fertiliser portfolio is composed primarily of ammonia, granular urea, urea ammonium nitrate solution and ammonium nitrate, although the company also sells nitrogen products, such as diesel exhaust fluid, urea liquor, nitric acid and aqua ammonia, for industrial uses.
CF Industries ranks 20th in the agricultural inputs segment, putting it in the middle of the ranking. The company has opportunities to improve disclosure and performance across all measurement areas compared to its segment peers. While it discloses an accountability mechanism for its sustainability strategy in the governance and strategy measurement area, the company does not show a strong industry performance as it provides insufficient evidence of stakeholder engagement. Similarly, in environment, it stands in the middle of the ranking, as it lacks disclosure on both quantitative evidence and targets on key topics. Furthermore, the company fails to tackle most relevant issues in both the nutrition and social inclusion measurement areas. As a result, it lags behind most of its peers in these two areas.
