Kidan Araya is an environmental strategist with nearly a decade of experience working across Africa and the United States. Her work sits at the intersections of strategic communications, policy advocacy, and climate action. She is the Communications Lead for the Climate and Energy Benchmark, crafting strategic communications and outreach around the just transition, decarbonization, and climate-related sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Kidan enjoys using her voice for good and to demand justice for communities most impacted by environmental harms. She is a U.S. Congressional Witness who testified on her experience working to combat the illicit natural resource trade in Africa. She is also an invited U.S. Department of State Speaker and spoke at the U.S. Embassy in The Gambia on illegal deforestation. She was recently named as one of the top 10 African voices on climate change on Twitter by Africa No Filter.

She most recently worked on environmental campaigns and climate philanthropy projects, helping to lead campaign launches that utilize strategic messaging to engage the public, civil society, and government officials in the work of organizations. Ms. Araya holds a Master’s Degree in Geography from the University of Washington at Seattle, and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Environmental Studies from Beloit College.
