National Grid is one of the world's largest publicly listed electric utilities, delivering energy to over 28 million customers in the UK and USA. The company owns the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales, and owns and operates electricity distribution networks in upstate New York and Massachusetts. National Grid was originally established in 1935, before the UK energy grid was privatised in 1947 in the post-war period. It was re- listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1995, following re-privatisation in 1990.
